Cave Of The Dead

Origin: Cave Of The Dead (Originally known as Cave Explorer) was my first ever game and was created for a game design course back at an old school. What was originally supposed to be 2 simple rooms in order to pass turned into a whole (yet still short) little game that surprised even the teacher when I wanted to continue even after passing the test.

Engine: Game Maker 8.1

Plot: Cave Of The Dead takes place in the infamous (in universe) cave of the same name. A cave filled with the tortured souls of the deceased and ruled by an evil demon. Take control of Mike Caver (That was a name I came up with for the cancelled sequel.) as you explore the cave to save your best friend from the evil cave of the dead... Also the controls are terrible so be careful.

Known Bugs:

• The controls are slippery on most of the levels and random levels are fine (Fixed as of v1.1)
• The final phase of the final boss (skull) requires running into to finish the game. However, I forgot to program collision on the “Can’t go back” locks for the skull so he can clip through and softlock you (Fixed as of v1.1)
• Some of the bosses can be killed without collecting all of the items (Fixed as of v1.1)
• Due to a coding error the game’s music doesn’t play anywhere (the midi files are in the source code though) (Fixed as of v1.1)
• Pressing more than 1 directional key will cause Mike to stop
• Controls have a chance to lock up after the tutorial.. ugh (Fixed as of v1.1.1)
• I accidentally left the debug command (shift) in the v1.1 build.. yeah.. oops (Fixed as of v1.1.1)
• Music loop causes the game to freeze (Fixed as of v1.1.1)
• Bosses and enemies can fly through the walls causing potential softlocks (Fixed as of v1.2)
